The Wagram …
… is a landscape of opulent and yet mysterious beauty. In order to fully discover and enjoy this beauty it requires peace and a feeling for the remaining values through the ages. Here the spoken word, true friendship and the look in your counterpart’s eyes still count more than the fast values of our time.
In his long, often deep in the everlasting loess dug “Kellergassen” (or cellar lanes), in which every form of hectic rush would cause astonishment, is the world a different place and the life there has remained pretty primal.
The terrace-formed steps build the fundament for premium vineyards. For the viticulture the loess soil is very beneficial. The soil has a high capacity in terms of storing water and an useful field capacity. The Green Veltliner, all representatives of the burgundy family as well as the most red-wine-varieties are comfortable in growing here.
Spring Awakening at the Wagram
Annually around the 1st of May the Spring Awakening and the Loess Spring is being celebrated in the whole Wagram region.
Climate & Soil (Area)
The climate at the Wagram depends on the following parameters: From the north comes the coolness of the Waldviertel, from the south the mildness of the Danube valley and from the east warm Pannonian wind. Annually we count about 2000 hours of sunlight, the vegetation period covers 10 months. Warm days and cool nights let very appealing fruit flavors arise.
The terrace-formed landscape of the Wagram is a geological specialty, which was significantly formed in the last ice age through elevation, subsidence of ground as well as storms, which drifted huge dimensions of loess. The loess settled on from the primal danube built terraces and is today about 30 meters deep.
About reeds and vines
Depending on adjustment, altitude and soil conditions wines with incisive features are thriving in various reeds. The special characteristics of a certain reed can be followed throughout centuries.
The Green Veltliner is very popular in Fels. In our reeds Dorner, Mitterweg, Steinagrund and Brunnthal delicate and tangy „4U“ are thriving as well as very complex Green Veltliner in world-class quality.
Our Riesling grows on opulent Loess-terraces of the Mitterweg reed. Its significant characteristics are the distinct harmony, the enjoyable flow as well as the good shelf life.
The Chardonny is nurtured in the reed of Leiten, the Savignon Blanc in the reed of Worra.
We are very proud on our Red Wines, which thrive well in the reeds of Diebstein (Zweigelt), Dorner (Cabernet Sauvignon) as well as Mitterweg (Merlot).
